Steps to Create and Save a “Wordle" as a JPEG file


  1. Go to http://www.wordle.net to create your Wordle.

Tips for Creating and Customizing your Wordle:
  • Type your list of words (in a column) into a Microsoft Word Document first so you can run spell check. Make sure you put a hyphen or dash between words whenever you want 2 or more words to stay together in a phrase (ex., fight-to-the-death);
  • If you want some words or phrases to be LARGER, type them 2 or 3 times in the list. Don't worry, they won't appear more than once, but they will appear much bigger than the rest of the words;
  • Highlight and copy your list of words from Word and paste them into the Wordle tool, then click "Go."
  • Once your Wordle is created, use the menu bar to change the "Font", and "Layout" (how words are displayed--horizontal, vertical or combination). Wordle-layout_tool2.JPG















    You can change the background color of your wordle (to a color other than black or white). Go to "Color", then "Edit Custom Pallette." Double click on the box for background and you can choose any color you like from the color pallette. NOTE: This will probably change other word colors in your Wordle, so you may need to adjust those as well by clicking the boxes that match up to the colors you DON'T want.Wordle-edit_colors.JPGWordle-change_background_color.JPG

  1. Center your Wordle on the screen so that it is completely visible (no part is cut off). Take a “screen shot” of your Wordle by hitting the <shift key> then the Print Screen button on your keyboard in the upper, right corner. This will copy what you see on the screen into the computer’s memory.
  2. Open the Paint program: Go to the green <Start> menu in the bottom, left corner of your task bar. If you don’t see “Paint” in the program list, click on “All Programs” then “Accessories” and choose “Paint”.
  3. With the “Paint” program open, click “Edit” from the menu bar and then “paste” to copy your screen shot image into the blank work area.
  4. Use your selector tool to select ONLY your Wordle picture (cut out anything else from the screen shot)

6. Once you have selected just the picture of your Wordle, go to “Edit” on the menu bar and select “copy.” Then go to “File” and “new” to open a new Paint document. You will be asked if you want to save your changes—do NOT save changes yet. Then go to “Edit” and “paste” your new copied picture into the new Paint document.

7. Now, choose “File” - “Save As” to save your Wordle. Change the file type to JPEG and rename your Wordle with the title of your book. Save this JPEG file to your folder in the “bobcat5” network drive (choose from the drop down menu).
